Dry skin, the sometimes patchy, lacklustre skin type. Caring for your dry skin can sometimes be a daunting task, and getting the right products and the perfect skincare routine that works for you might seem like mission impossible. It really does not have to be that way because finding the right balance to manage this skin type is not as hard as it appears to be.

There are several things to keep in mind from skincare products to the best skin care tips that can help you manage your dry skin. Here, are 7 golden skincare tips you should consider to get the most out of your dry skin.

1. Golden Tip #1: Avoid washing off with hot water.

This might be a little surprising right? Well, washing your skin with hot water does more damage to dry skin than good. When you wash with hot water, it strips off the lipids from your skin leaving it worse off than before. It is advisable you wash with lukewarm water to preserve the essential oils produced by your skin to give you that extra layer of coverage needed.

2. Golden Tip #2: Cleanse

Yes, cleansing might seem like a normal thing to do when putting up a skincare routine. However, having the products can go a long way in making this step very effective. When setting out to get a cleanser, it is very important to look out for products that are very well suited for your skin type, look out for a gentle clenaser that would remove makeup and tiny dirt particles stuck in pores without stripping the skin of its essential oils and remember to also be very gentle on your skin when cleansing. On days you’ve had makeup on or several layers of dirt, you can double cleanse by first using either micellar water, cleansing balm, cleansing oil and the likes before going in with your face cleanser.

3. Golden Tip #3: Use a toner

A face toner is very essential and should be the second stage of your skincare routine, however, be mindful of the kind of toner you use.  There are different toning products, but it is advisable you make use of a non-alcoholic based toner because this prevents your skin from drying out.

4. Golden Tip #4: Exfoliate weekly

Exfoliating weekly with a good facial scrub helps to remove dead skin cells and unclog your pores. This would also reveal a more beautiful layer underneath your dry skin. Once or twice a week is enough to do the trick, figure out the number of times you should exfoliate by taking note of how your skin responds to the products you use. Exfoliating too regularly can have the opposite effect on your skin. You should check out this post to read more on how to properly exfoliate based on your skin type.

For DIY lovers, a cream-based scrub with walnut or apricot seeds or a homemade sugar scrub should do just fine. A cream-based scrub that I live by is the Edens apricot face and body scrub which has some of the best ingredients and is really soothing on the skin. When making a homemade scrub, make sure to use cocoa butter or shea butter as the base so it is not too harsh on your skin.

5. Golden Tip #5: Moisturize

Apply a moisturizer immediately after taking a shower or washing your face. Applying moisturizer is important regardless of your skin type. Applying on damp skin is more effective. Using a facial oil in addition to moisturizer can help to seal moisture and keep your skin moisturized for longer. If you intend on using an oil-based serum or facial oil, it should be applied after the moisturizer. This is because oils can penetrate moisturizer but not vice versa.

6. Golden Tip #6: Face mask

Making a face mask part of your skincare routine is very essential. Over time, constant cleansing may leave your skin dry and really sensitive. That is why it is important to use a face mask, partly because it is a relaxing experience and it also helps to soothe the skin. You can use an overnight face mask to give your skin the added nourishment while you get your beauty sleep.

7. Golden Tip #7: Keep the environment humid

Finally, the environment around you is very important and plays an essential role in your skincare. A lack of moisture in your environment could be contributing to the constant dryness of your skin. The simple remedy to this is to invest in a humidifier because it can help put some moisture back into the environment which ultimately helps your skin feel better. You can get a portable humidifier to carry along with you, placing it on your desk at work or on your nightstand to help maintain constant hydration in your environment.
