Did you ever hear people talk about how they are saving up to be able to pay to be trained in a makeup school, or when they say that it’s their desire to be trained in a makeup school? And you are there thinking ‘why not just learn from the internet?’ “why should you go to a makeup school?”

To you, learning on the internet is as good as being trained in a makeup school. And in fact, it is cheaper. Well, maybe you are not completely wrong.

Here are 5 reasons that would help you solidify your thoughts on why you should not go to a makeup school.

5 Reasons Why You Should Not Go To A Makeup School

1. Affordability

Being trained in a good makeup school would definitely cost you a whole lot more than if you decide to be a self-taught makeup artist. Apart from the fact that you have to pay the required fees for the required period of training, you would also have to keep spending money on buying the required makeup products. It is true that you also have to buy products even if you are learning on your own.

However, it is possible to use some makeshift products before you save enough to buy the expected material. A makeup school is not a fan of make shift products. Hence, the need to continually buy what is required, when it is required.

2. Learning At Your Pace

A makeup school is a formal institution that has a curriculum that it strictly follows in teaching its students. This makes it difficult, and almost impossible for students to have a flexible timetable as regards what to learn and when to learn it. Also, both a slow learner and a fast learner all have the same time allotted to learn a particular process. Therefore, learning might not be so effective when everything has to move according to the provided syllabus, and not necessarily according to a student’s learning pace.  So a fast learner would have to wait for lessons on a particular process to come to an end according to the syllabus before he learns a new thing, and a slow learner would have to struggle to catch up even after a learning process has come to an end.

3. Multitasking

If you desire to do other things whilst being trained as a makeup artist, then going to a makeup school might not be the best option for you. This is because of its professional structure and set up that allows for little or no multitasking. So if you have other things that also need your attention, you could learn on your own in a more flexible manner.

4. Creativity

Although the syllabus of a makeup school gives it a formal structure, it also breeds rigidity. This is because the students are not given the freedom to explore the art to their desires, to a large extent. Hence, creativity can be limited, since it can only be explored within the confines of the syllabus. This is not so good for an art like makeup, as it largely thrives on the creativity of the artist.

5. Employment

Although a person might have invested so much time and money into being professionally trained to be a makeup artist, it is still no guarantee that there would be jobs waiting for the student at the end of the training. Sometimes, the student would have to figure that out by themselves. This could seem unreasonable, especially considering the amount paid to be trained.

So being trained in a makeup school might not worth the hype at the end of the day. I hope you find this useful.
