I want to believe that at this stage, a large percentage of people are aware of what a moisturizer is. In fact, when you walk down the isle of skincare section in a store, you’ll find different moisturizer creams in tubes, jars or bottles many of which promise to make you wrinkle-free, provide hydration and generally make your skin better.

Moisturizer without a doubt is a very important part of your skincare and not just for the face, for the entire body as well. If you skip every other step (minus SPF, *winks*), do not skip moisturizing your skin. There are so many options from inexpensive, affordable ones to Luxury ones that work great!
You really have no excuse for not using a moisturizer.

In this post, I’ll be sharing benefits of using moisturizers as well as giving you options of some of the best moisturizers available; some that I included in my skincare routine and loved, others from great reviews from people I trust

Benefits Of Moisturizers

1. Reduces Appearance Of Wrinkles

The use of moisturizers is a very effective way to fight the appearance of wrinkles, improve skin texture and make your skin glow. Not using a moisturizer, you risk making the wrinkles you already have worse and even new ones can begin to appear on your face.

2. Prevent Dryness And Flakiness

This is about the top reason why you should make use of a moisturizer. Lack of moisture on the skin can cause dehydration, strips the skin of its lipids which in turn can cause flakiness on the skin. Also, associated with dehydration of the skin are patchiness, uneven texture and discoloration. This doesn’t look pretty especially in cold season using a moisturizer, helps restore hydration and to your skin, gives it emollients that make the skin smoother and look its best.

3. Reduce Or Prevent Acne

One of the myths in skincare that has been debunked is that your skin needs to be dry to prevent pimples and acne. Tell you what, when your skin is dry, the skin tries to moisturize itself, the glands begin to feel the need to produce extra sebum which can cause breakouts or aggravate existing ones by clogging your pores. If you have oily skin or acne-prone skin, you can opt for oil-free, noncomedogenic moisturizers. Exfoliate your skin the right way and never ever forget to moisturize afterward.

4. Protection Against Sun Damage

Some skincare products, especially ones primarily containing active ingredients like Salicylic acid, retinol, Ascorbic acid, etc can be either be drying or make your skin more sensitive to ultraviolet rays of the sun. It is recommended that you use a sunscreen, some moisturizers have SPF in them, and some sunscreens act as moisturizers as well. Now you’re not only hydrating your skin, but you’re also protecting it from sun damage. This Sunscreen is the one I’m presently using and I love it cos it doubles as a moisturizer as well

5. Gives Your Makeup A Flawless Look

The first step in achieving a flawless makeup look is moisturizing your face. This gives your makeup products something to hold on to make it long-lasting. It also prevents or reduces to a large extent creasing that tends to occur when makeup products settle into fine lines on the skin.
Not properly hydrating your skin before makeup application might just be the reason why your makeup gets cakey

6.  Safe For Sensitive Skin

When you have a skin that is sensitive and easily irritated, there are moisturizers with ingredients like chamomile or aloe vera which helps to calm skin irritations including itching, redness, eczema, etc.

How To Apply A Moisturizer

Applying a moisturizer is pretty easy and straightforward.

  •  Squeeze a little more than a pea-sized amount on your palm
  • Rub Your palms together to warm it up
  • Apply on your face in circular motions, tapping it gently into the skin
  • Do not leave out your forehead and your neck.
